Hotel California was considered one of the most influential songs in rock and roll by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  The Eagles then were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Heartbreak Hotel – Elvis Presley 

“Well, since my baby left me

Well, I found a new place to dwell

Well, it’s down at the end of Lonely Street

At Heartbreak Hotel

Where I’ll be–where I get so lonely, baby”

The song was inspired by a newspaper article about a lonely man who committed suicide from jumping out his hotel window. Songwriters Tommy Durden and Mae Boren Axon wrote Heartbreak Hotel with the help of Elvis Presley.

Holiday Inn – Elton John 

“Boston at last, and the plane’s touching down

Our hostess is handing the hot towels around

From a terminal gate to a black limousine

It’s a ten-minute ride to the Holiday Inn”

The lyrics of Holiday Inn tell us the story of Elton John and his band members’ journey on the road.

Blue Hotel – Chris Isaak

Hotel Room Service – Pitbull 

“You’re gonna take the hotel room tonight; make some noise (woo)

A cool fun fact about this smash hit is that it interpolates the lyrics of the rapper’s delight by The Sugarhill Gang. 

Hotel Yorba – The White Stripes

“Well, it’s one, two, three, four

Take the elevator at the Hotel Yorba

All they got inside is vacancy” 

Hotel Yorba once existed in 1923 in Southwest Detroit.

Pennsylvania 6-5000 – Glenn Miller

“Pennsylvania Six, Five Thousand I’ve got a sweety I know there Someone who sets me aglow there”

Pennsylvania 6-5000 was actually a New York City telephone number from the 1930s to the 60s at the Historic hotel, Hotel Pennsylvania. 

Memory Hotel – Rolling Stones 

“Hannah honey was a peachy kind of girl

Her eyes were hazel

And her nose was slightly curved

We spent a lonely night at the Memory Motel”

This song was about Mick Jagger’s girl for quite a while and reminisced about their time together.

Copacabana – Barry Manilow

“At the Copa, (Copa) Copacabana (Copacabana) The hottest spot north of Havana, (here) At the Copa, (Copa) Copacabana (Copacabana)”

While visiting Rio de Janeiro, Barry and his partner wondered if there was ever a song named Copacabana, especially regulars at the New York City nightclub Copacabana. 

There’s a Small Hotel – Ella Fitzgerald

“There’s a small hotel

With a wishing well

I wish that we were there together”

This song has also been sung by Diana Ross, Tony Bennet, and Frank Sinatra.

Chateu Marmont – Lana Del Rey 

“Likes to watch me in the glass room, bathroom, Chateau Marmont

Slippin’ on my red dress, puttin’ on my makeup”

This song is about Lana Del. Ray professing her love to her rich boyfriend, where they both have a Bonnie & Clyde Relationship.
