About Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

Freddy’s was co-founded in 2002 by Scott Redler, Bill and Randy Simon and named after Bill and Randy’s father, Freddy Simon, a Purple Heart, World War II Veteran from Wichita, Kansas. Freddy Simon’s family values, huge heart and patriotic service are the foundation of our fast-casual restaurant concept.

At Freddy’s, frozen custard is such a signature part of the menu that it’s included in the name. But surprisingly, the Freddy’s story doesn’t begin with dessert. It all started with a main course back in the 1950’s. The savory steakburger is inspired by the 50’s style staple and reminiscent of an era focused on quality, cooked-to-order meals that bring families and loved ones together.

Together, we created a brand focused on quality, hospitality, cleanliness and timeless traditions. We imagined a restaurant reminiscent of the late 1940s and early 1950s that featured a key brand icon: Freddy. Today, our restaurants from coast-to-coast serve a simple menu honoring the All-American meals Freddy made for his family.

About Freddy

Freddy grew up on a farm near Colwich, Kan., and signed up for the infantry in the U.S. Army at the first opportunity. After years of fighting in places around the Pacific Rim during World War II, Freddy earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his service and returned home safely. Following World War II, he worked hard for 56 years while raising his family. Freddy participated in Veterans groups and World War II memorial events across the United States before his passing in 2020. Freddy believed he was “the luckiest man in the world.”

Today, thousands gather at Freddy’s for food and fellowship that fills their stomach and warms their soul.
